Financial Aid

Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in applying for financial aid and is available through the student financial aid office. You only need to complete one FAFSA per award year. Be sure to follow all instructions carefully as filling out this form correctly the first time will speed up the financial aid process. You may complete your FAFSA on the web (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION AND PACKAGING POLICY

Financial aid applicants at APNHO are processed using the same criteria used by the US Department of Education (ED). Financial assistance is awarded based on financial need. The APNHO’s financial aid staff have developed an institutional packaging policy to ensure consistent, equitable, and fair distribution of financial aid funds.
  1. Students must meet the general student eligibility requirements:

    1. Demonstrate financial need
    2. Have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent or have passed an Ability to Benefit Test approved by ED (ATB for health occupations classes only)
    3. Be enrolled in an eligible program
    4. Be a US Citizen or eligible non citizen
    5. Maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by APNHO.

    Note: These may be reviewed in the ED publication Funding Your Education Beyond High School available in the financial aid office.

  2. APNHO Participates in the Federal Pell Grant Program, Direct Loan (DL) Programs, and FSEOG Grant Program


    1. Federal Pell Grant is a grant and does not need to be paid back and must be considered before any loan funding. The student’s eligibility is based on a formula utilized when the student completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    2. DL are federal loan programs with low interest rates and deferred payments until after a student graduates and is based on financial need. All students receiving a loan will be required to do entrance counseling and exit counseling as part of their financial aid packaging.
    3. The Financial Aid staff must review the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) prior to awarding loans to review any prior loan history or default status and Pell Grant overpayment.

  3. APNHO is approved for state aid with Florida Bright Futures Program


  4. APNHO accepts Workforce Alliance Individual Training Account Vouchers as well as Workforce Alliance Youth Scholarships


  1. APNHO utilizes standard budgets that represent a cost of attendance which includes the student’s:

    1. Tuition and fees
    2. Books and supplies
    3. Room and board
    		   
    1. Personal expenses
    2. Transportation costs
    3. Loan fees (if applicable)
  2. A student’s need is determined by the following formula:

    1. Cost of attendance (COA)
      (minus expected family contribution (EFC) from ISIR/SAR)
      (minus estimated financial aid-EFA)
      = financial need

  3. Estimated Financial Aid

    1. Pell Grant
      1. Eligible amount determined by EFC from ISIR/SAR

    2. Workforce Scholarship / Vouchers
      1. Eligible amount varies

    3. State Aid
      1. Eligible amount determined by the state

    4. FFEL or DL loans
      5. Subsidized loan amounts for independent and dependent students
      1. 1st year $3500
      2. 2nd year $4500

      Unsubsidized loan amounts for independent students
      1. 1st year $6000
      2. 2nd year $6000

      Unsubsidized loan amounts for dependent students
      1. 1st year $2000
      2. 2nd year $2000

      Note: Aggregate loan limits are $23000 for dependent students and $46000 for independent students with no more than $23000 in subsidized loans.

      Note: Dependent students can borrow up to a $6000 unsubsidized loan if the parents were denied a PLUS loan.

      Note: Dependent students can borrow an unsubsidized loan up to $5500 (1st year) or $6500 (2nd year) if the student’s parents no longer provide financial support and will not provide support, refuse to complete the FAFSA and will sign a statement to that effect. Only unsubsidized loans can be borrowed in this situation. If parents will not provide a statement the financial aid office must obtain third party documentation, i.e., clergy, court, counselor, etc.

    5. Private Pay
      1. The Financial Aid staff will determine what the student needs to pay prior to enrollment.

  4. DL loans can never exceed the cost of attendance minus EFC minus EFA

  5. DL loans have subsidized, unsubsidized and PLUS (parent) loans

  6. Subsidized loans are based on financial need with the following formula:

  8. Once a student’s eligibility and financial need are determined, the student’s aid is processed using the institution’s third party servicer (FAME) and an award letter is generated for the student. The student must be notified of the financial aid they are eligible to receive.
  9. Financial Aid staff and third party servicer are responsible for processing student’s loans.

  10. Financial Aid staff is responsible for awarding institutional waivers as part of the FSEOG grant.

The Financial Aid Office is open 7:30 - 6:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday.

Further information such as criteria for selecting recipients, determining eligibility for amounts of Aid, how and when aid will be disbursed, as well as how loans are expected to be repaid, are found in the Department of Education’s “Funding Education Beyond High School” which may be obtained from the school’s financial aid office. This information will be given to each applicant upon meeting with the Financial Aid Counselor.

Academic Year Definition: Health Occupations Students = 900 Clock Hrs / Practical Nursing Students = 900 Clock Hrs Full-Time Students must attend a minimum of 24 hours per week.
